Rent by district
Every quarter the Catalan government publishes the average rent on new contracts in Barcelona, based on the deposits lodged with Incasòl. These are prices for whole flats, not rooms: if you share, divide by the number of people. Figures for the first quarter of 2026:
| District | Average rent for a flat (€/month) |
|---|---|
| Nou Barris | 817 |
| Horta-Guinardó | 930 |
| Sant Andreu | 935 |
| Sants-Montjuïc | 1,008 |
| Ciutat Vella | 1,011 |
| Gràcia | 1,081 |
| Sant Martí | 1,100 |
| Eixample | 1,250 |
| Les Corts | 1,289 |
| Sarrià-Sant Gervasi | 1,600 |

How to spend less
Transport is the easiest cost to cut. If you're under 30, the T-jove costs 45.50 euros for 90 days of unlimited travel, or roughly 15 euros a month. That's well below the 50 euros UPF assumes.
Plenty of things to do are free or close to it: libraries, council-run museums during their free hours and neighbourhood festivals. There are ideas in our guide to Gràcia on a budget.
Don't forget the paperwork when you arrive: a 12-euro fee for the EU registration certificate, or 16.08 euros for your first TIE if you're from outside the EU. It's all in our paperwork checklist.
